Former students and classmates have responded to the \u201cawful and heartbreaking\u201d news and shared memories of Ives.<\/p>\n
Wellington Girls’ College said Gail Ives was a student at the school, before teaching in the PE and Health department for 39 years. Photo \/ WGC<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was so lovely, passionate about sports, quietly spoken but strong in empathy,\u201d a former student said.<\/p>\n
A former colleague described Ives as a \u201cdedicated teacher\u201d with the \u201cmost positive outlook on life\u201d.<\/p>\n
Many shared fond memories of seeing Ives running through Wellington, noting she would always stop to talk with school community members.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou were one of my favourite teachers at college,\u201d one former student said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI still remember how you would always be jogging around school to your next class.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou were always so patient especially with us girls that weren\u2019t always on our best behaviour,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n
