After talking to Govinden, police conducted a welfare check at his parents\u2019 house 5km away in Glenfield.<\/p>\n

There they found Raman and Rooksana Govinden dead. Both were in their late 70s.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an awful set of events,\u201d Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie said at the time. \u201cI know this will leave many in our community unsettled, but what I can say at this early stage of the investigation is that the offender and victims are all known to each other.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marc Govinden\u2019s uncle, who lives in South Africa, said the family loved New Zealand for its safety.<\/p>\n

He described his brother, Raman Govinden, as \u201ca very private person\u201d who wasn\u2019t keen to share any troubling family matters when they\u2019d talk on the phone.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy brother was a true gentleman,\u201d he said. \u201cHe loved his family. They were his priority.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raman Govinden has gone to medical school and \u201chad high standards that he kept himself to\u201d, the brother added.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was resilient and a fighter. It\u2019s very tragic.\u201d<\/p>\n

He described the defendant\u2019s mother as a \u201cloving and caring woman\u201d who had battled cancer earlier in life \u2013 resulting in a large age gap in her two sons. He recalled her being worried about safety when the couple visited him in South Africa a little over a decade ago.<\/p>\n

\"RooksanaRooksana Govinden was found dead inside her Glenfield, Auckland home in July 2026 alongside her husband, Raman Govinden. Their son, Marc Govinden, has been charged with murder.<\/p>\n

It was quite the opposite in New Zealand, he recalled Rooksana Govinden telling him.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe told me she could leave her house unlocked and just go to the beach,\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n

The defendant\u2019s case is set to be called again at another brief hearing in October.<\/p>\n
