Three people, including two teenagers, have been arrested and charged following burglaries at a Northland supermarket and bar this month, in which cash and a significant amount of alcohol were stolen.<\/p>\n
Police allege the offenders used stolen vehicles to ram raid Four Square Marsden Cove on August 2 and commit a burglary at the Ruak\u0101k\u0101 Tavern on August 17.<\/p>\n
Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer said a vehicle was used to break into the supermarket on Rauiri Dr at about 4.30am.<\/p>\n
“The offenders stole confectionery and then left the store before returning to steal alcohol,” he said.<\/p>\n
The group then fled in the stolen car.<\/p>\n
Two weeks later, offenders broke into the Ruak\u0101k\u0101 Tavern, taking alcohol and cash before leaving in a stolen car that was later found on George Point Rd.<\/p>\n
Inquiries identified suspects and search warrants were executed in the Whang\u0101rei area this week, when three males were located and charged.<\/p>\n
“Businesses in our community should be able to operate without the fear that they will be targeted by this kind of offending,” Pilmer said.<\/p>\n
“This behaviour will not be tolerated, and we will continue to hold these offenders to account.”<\/p>\n
A 19-year-old man has been charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle. He has been remanded in custody and will reappear in Whang\u0101rei District Court on September 4.<\/p>\n
A 15-year-old and a 17-year-old have each been charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of unlawfully taking a motor vehicle.
