\u201cIt was never the intention of this collaboration to endorse crime or delinquency, nor to glorify or trivialise these acts from someone\u2019s past,\u201d the ministry said on Friday (local time).<\/p>\n
\u201cBut we have received a lot of concerns and criticism that it can cause discomfort among people victimised by crimes,\u201d it said, adding that the partnership will be terminated.<\/p>\n
Badly in Love Season 2 came under fire after an episode aired in which one cast member confessed that, as a teen, he had been arrested for setting someone on fire to prove he was \u201cnot chickening out\u201d.<\/p>\n
The cancellation of the campaign, however, \u201cisn\u2019t meant to deny efforts to help rehabilitate people who committed crimes in the past\u201d, the ministry said.<\/p>\n
Badly in Love executive producer Dai Ota told AFP in April that before running Season 1 the production team had \u201cextensive internal discussions\u201d to ensure the show would not be perceived as \u201ccondoning the violence\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur hope was to show that these young people \u2013 who have often been marginalised or labelled as \u2018social outcasts\u2019 \u2013 are simply youths who worry, struggle and genuinely grow,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
