\u201cShe leaves behind a lot of loving family who will be absolutely heartbroken, as you can imagine,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was a very kind person, and a lovely lady.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bray said Penman had lived in the area for a long time and was a \u201cbig part\u201d of the local community. Her husband worked at the supermarket where she was struck.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a devastating loss for the Sunnynook community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Asli Can, another of Penman\u2019s friends, said she had met with her regularly for coffee over the past five years \u2013 sometimes twice a day.<\/p>\n

The pair had shared their usual coffee at The Great Cafe yesterday and spoke on the phone later in the evening. <\/p>\n

\u201cShe sounded so happy. She said, \u2018see you in the morning, love\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

But when Can met the rest of their group this morning, she was informed Penman had died.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll our friend group and The Great Cafe staff cuddled and cried,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI sat on her chair where she usually sits, in the corner first chair on the left.\u201d<\/p>\n

Can said Penman was \u201cso kind\u201d, supporting her through hard times and even gifting her a quilt she had made with her late mother.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was a lovely lady who would sit and talk even with homeless, unfortunate people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"WoolworthsWoolworths Sunnynook staff gathered in the carpark where Jeanette Penman died after a car hit her last night.<\/p>\n

Woolworths New Zealand confirmed the victim was a family member of one of the Sunnynook store team.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are devastated by this incident and our continued focus is on supporting our team and their wh\u0101nau to the fullest extent possible,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

The Herald observed about 20 staff outside the supermarket, including the victim\u2019s husband, listening to a speaker about 10.45am.<\/p>\n

The spokesperson said the gathering was a blessing ceremony.<\/p>\n

Photos from the scene last night show a vehicle appeared to have collided with a metal trolley bay, which collapsed.<\/p>\n

The supermarket on the corner of Sunnynook Rd and Sycamore Drive was closed last night and reopened today. <\/p>\n

Katey Warren, who lives near the carpark, said the situation was \u201cso sad and devastating for everyone involved\u201d.<\/p>\n

Warren told the Herald she regularly walks through the carpark and the incident showed \u201chow quickly things can change\u201d.<\/p>\n
