Open since December 2025, it\u2019s not so much a secret gem these days, but it is a gem nevertheless. Built to accommodate passenger capacity while redevelopment of its Koru lounges is underway, the space is inspired by NZ\u2019s Great Walks. Having done The Whanganui Journey in a wooden canoe, I can confirm it\u2019s 100% more luxurious.<\/p>\n
The set-up is a slick one, with plenty of clever lighting, wooden accents and simple, Scandi-inspired design. There is also a seating arrangement for whatever your spine desires: bar stools, leather couches, high-walled single pods that block your neighbour from judging how many free cakes you\u2019ve squirrelled. I hopped between a few while visiting the bar for espresso martinis and help-yourself Villa Maria bubbles (and then remembering long-haul dehydration and deciding against both).<\/p>\n

Fortunately, for the hydration-conscious, there\u2019s also an abundance of soft drinks, fruit juice and a water refill area. The tea station has a whopping 10 varietals (because, you know, 10 great walks). I\u2019d have OD\u2019d on zesty lemon had I not had a window seat and a fear of straddling strangers.<\/p>\n
I even saw a handful of children enjoying the Lookout Lounge, an inclusion that seemed to bother no one (least of all those \u2018screaming\u2019 babies, all of whom were asleep on their parents\u2019 chests).<\/p>\n
I too ended up sleeping like a baby, for seven out of the 12 hours I was airborne. There\u2019s nothing quite like being well-rested and well-fed for an easier, more enjoyable journey.<\/p>\n
