Adelaide-based resident and “once-a-week fisherman”, Adrian Richards, said while he was a frequent visitor to the Yorke Peninsula, the bloom had disrupted his plans this year.<\/p>\n
“We certainly have given second thoughts to whether we should go [to the coast],” he said.<\/p>\n
“We love to support the businesses and the people over there, but in reality, it’s not such a pleasant place to be at the present time.”<\/p>\n

The River Murray has remained untouched by the harmful bloom, offering a place for tourists looking for a waterside holiday.<\/p>\n
“My most recent holiday, in fact, we changed plans \u2026 took the boat up to Morgan and spent a couple of days camping on the nice sandbar on the banks of the mighty Murray,” Mr Richards said.<\/p>\n
“We know the river very well and certainly it is within our plans to spend a little bit more time up there.”<\/p>\n

Natural disaster known ‘all too well’<\/p>\n
Riverland residents are no strangers to natural disasters, with the third-highest flood on record<\/a> flowing through in 2022\u201323.<\/p>\n Destination Riverland manager Lauren Ward said the region’s tourism industry was standing with its coastal counterparts.<\/p>\n “It’s a devastating time for the coastal communities going through such a massive disaster,” she said.<\/p>\n “Our Riverland communities know all too well what it feels like to have something you can’t control come through your region and impact your very livelihoods.” Lauren Ward says the local industry is standing with SA’s coastal regions.
