{"id":584736,"date":"2026-08-30T07:50:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-30T07:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/584736\/"},"modified":"2026-08-30T07:50:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-30T07:50:08","slug":"farmer-fears-for-kingfishers-and-wildlife-at-crowded-river-stour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/584736\/","title":{"rendered":"Farmer fears for kingfishers and wildlife at crowded River Stour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A farmer has spoken of his fears that antisocial river users are scaring or drowning local wildlife.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Daniel Bunting, who farms near Nayland in Suffolk, said most people using the River Stour are &#8220;respectful&#8221;, but some disturb wildlife with motorised boats or by turning up in large groups, speeding and playing music.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 52-year-old said the 25ft wide (7.6m) stretch of water was not designed for crowds or fast-moving craft .<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We&#8217;re having boats on the river from first thing in the morning to last thing at night and they just don&#8217;t get any peace,&#8221; he said. &#8220;If you get a wake it would actually drown the kingfisher chicks because they&#8217;re in little holes in the bank.
