The authors inferred at least 5,906\u00a0independent events and estimated that horizontally derived TEs account for an average of 7.7%, and up to 67%, of fungal TE content. However, these transfers were not evenly distributed across fungal taxa. HTT was particularly common in the Mucoromycotina subphylum and in three classes within the Pezizomycotina subphylum: Sordariomycetes, Dothideomycetes and Leotiomycetes. Several TE groups were also more frequently transferred, including Tc1\/mariner DNA transposons, Copia retrotransposons and Tad1 retrotransposons. Thus, both fungal lineage and TE type influence the distribution of HTT.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This Genome Watch article highlights how giant fungal Starship transposons may facilitate the horizontal transfer of smaller transposable…\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":587082,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[2294,6474,6422,19384,39047,2867,289066,111,139,69,19383,147,6547],"class_list":["post-587081","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-science","tag-general","tag-infectious-diseases","tag-life-sciences","tag-medical-microbiology","tag-microbial-ecology","tag-microbiology","tag-mobile-elements","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nz","tag-parasitology","tag-science","tag-virology"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/587081","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=587081"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/587081\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/587082"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=587081"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=587081"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=587081"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
