The 33-year-old singer and actor who starred in the Wicked movies has always been slim and petite but a video for her song Petal released July showed significant weight loss with her bones jutting out, leading fans to post concerned comments.<\/p>\n
Days later, Grande\u2019s representative said she would be taking a break from public life at the end of the tour.<\/p>\n
Grande\u2019s representative told People magazine the Grammy-winning artist wanted to take a \u201cstep back from visibility,\u201d as her many appearances had \u201cled to endless, ongoing public scrutiny\u201d.<\/p>\n
Producers also announced she was dropping out of her debut appearance in London\u2019s West End in the Stephen Sondheim musical Sunday in The Park with George.<\/p>\n
The singer has described this decision as \u201cthoughtful and empowered\u201d.<\/p>\n
The tour has been acclaimed by critics with the BBC calling it a \u201cbravura performance\u201d, but the Guardian newspaper wrote: \u201cit is impossible to witness the 33-year-old\u2019s frame on stage and not be gripped by genuine concern for her\u201d.<\/p>\n
Grande has called body-shaming comments \u201creally dangerous\u201d, however.<\/p>\n

Concert-goers defended her privacy while saying it was normal to feel concern and mentioning \u201ctoxic fans\u201d posting on her social media.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s her business, my opinion is you\u2019re allowed to have a concern,\u201d Kane said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s appropriate for people who have no idea what she is going through to talk about it online,\u201d said Emily, 19, from Vienna, who works in the fitness industry.<\/p>\n
Andrea, a 15-year-old from Italy, talked about \u201ctoxic fans I see on the comments on reels on Instagram\u201d who \u201csay bad things [about] her\u201d and \u201cher body because she\u2019s thin\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me she\u2019s fine and she\u2019s beautiful like that,\u201d the student said.<\/p>\n
Grande began her career as a teen on Broadway before embarking on a hugely successful pop career.<\/p>\n
In 2017, she was performing at Manchester Arena in northwest England when an Islamist extremist detonated a suicide bomb, killing 22 people including seven children.<\/p>\n
She returned to Manchester to headline at a benefit concert for victims of the attack.<\/p>\n
Her star turn as Glinda in the film adaptation of Wicked earned her an Oscar nomination in 2025 for best supporting actress.<\/p>\n
She is set to appear in the comedy Focker-in-Law opposite Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro, which hits cinemas in November.<\/p>\n
