Image: XPB Images<\/p>\n<p>Doohan began the 2025 season alongside Pierre Gasly but was replaced after six rounds by Franco Colapinto, who has since struggled to make an impression.<\/p>\n<p>Despite speculation around a potential comeback, Nielsen said in Singapore on Friday that no firm decision has been made.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJack is still part of our programme. He drove for us the first few races of the season. We made a change. Franco is now in the car,\u201d Nielsen said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe constantly assess our options. As I said at the beginning, we\u2019ll make decisions when we have to, but I can\u2019t give you an update on if or when he will drive again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The comments come just weeks after Alpine executive advisor Flavio Briatore <a href=\"https:\/\/speedcafe.com\/f1-news-2025-jack-doohan-update-future-alpine-return-second-seat-speculation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">appeared to close the door on Doohan<\/a>, insisting that only Colapinto and reserve driver Paul Aron were in contention for the second 2026 seat alongside Gasly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s between Franco and Paul,\u201d Briatore said, ruling out external signings.<\/p>\n<p>Doohan\u2019s drop from Alpine marks a rapid fall in status for the 22-year-old, who started the year as the team\u2019s most advanced junior before being sidelined.<\/p>\n<p>Although Colapinto has yet to score a point, his recent improvements, coupled with Aron\u2019s strong free practice showings, have pushed Doohan further from the frame.<\/p>\n<p>Williams team principal James Vowles also played down any prospect of signing Doohan as a reserve, pointing instead to the team\u2019s own driver pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom our side, as far as we\u2019re aware, Jack is contracted to Alpine,\u201d Vowles said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have our own young driver programme \u2014 we\u2019ve got Luke, who\u2019s second in the [F2] championship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd for me, as we did with Franco as well, it\u2019s about developing our own internal structure and drivers.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Alpine have given an update on Jack Doohan&#8217;s future with the team.
