A warmer atmosphere holds more moisture, so El Niño-linked rains can turn more extreme. It also dries out soils, deepening drought where El Niño brings drought.

– AFP

The NHC added: “Swells from Lowell are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip-current conditions in portions of…

[22
290099,290098,83585,273,58361,49155,78,111,139,192804,69,11599,1118,13572,11673,8205,147,9433,18835,223,210,13082,810,100955,25535,5977,290097
post-589219","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-attributed","tag-churning","tag-el","tag-environment","tag-historically","tag-hurricanes","tag-in","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nio","tag-nz","tag-ocean","tag-of","tag-pacific","tag-phenomenon","tag-rare","tag-science","tag-scientists","tag-strong","tag-the","tag-through","tag-trio","tag-up","tag-warmed","tag-waters","tag-which","tag-whips
["GET
