In the two decades since Terri Irwin<\/a> lost her “soulmate”, she hasn’t remarried or even gone on a date with someone.<\/p>\n

Terri met Steve<\/a> in 1991, just two days after the Crocodile Hunter<\/a> took over Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park from his parents.<\/p>\n

She has previously said that she hasn’t been interested in jumping back into the dating pool because she already had her “happily-ever after”.<\/a><\/p>\n

“I’m lonely for Steve, but I’m not lonely,” the mum-of-two told Stellar<\/a> magazine last year.<\/p>\n

“I never mourn being on my own and not being in a relationship.<\/p>\n

“I think we need to say that. I think women are still amazing, fulfilled, incredible people \u2013 even if you never marry, if you have four kids, or two kids, or no kids.”<\/p>\n

She said there are “no rules” about what life should look like.<\/p>\n

Another reason she hasn’t dated is that she felt there would never be another man like the one she was married to for 14 years.<\/p>\n

“While there are a lot of wonderful men in the world, can you see another Steve Irwin?” she told Us Weekly<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n

“I just can’t.<\/p>\n

“I’d be like, ‘I love that you’re a librarian and the Dewey Decimal System is cool, but I got to go jump a crocodile and do that’. Forget that.”<\/p>\n

How did Terri and Steve meet?<\/p>\n

Twenty-five years ago, the American was captivated as she watched Steve perform a crocodile demonstration at the Queensland park.<\/p>\n

Steve, who was 29 at the time, said that as soon as he saw the Oregon woman, his heart went “bang, bang, bang, bang”.<\/p>\n

“It was love at first sight,” he said in an episode of Crocodile Hunter.<\/p>\n

It was a chance encounter, and things almost fell apart when Steve asked if Terri wanted to meet his “girlfriend” after the demonstration.<\/p>\n

But when he called out the name “Sui”, a dog came bounding over instead.<\/p>\n

Terri and Steve had a whirlwind romance and married the following year in her home state.<\/p>\n

Terri has spent the last two decades raising her children and growing Australia Zoo.<\/p>\n

Immediately after tying the knot, the pair took off to film a documentary about relocating a problem crocodile in far north Queensland.<\/p>\n

That would end up kicking off the series The Crocodile Hunter, and help the Irwins become household names.<\/p>\n

The duo welcomed their daughter Bindi in 1998 and their son Robert in 2003.<\/p>\n

Steve tragically died nearly 20 years ago to the day in 2006 after being struck by a stingray.<\/p>\n
