The search for a hiker swept down a river while hiking in rugged alpine terrain in Canterbury has been suspended due to “adverse weather”. <\/p>\n

Gareth Anderson went missing while hiking with a friend<\/a> on the Cass-Lagoon Saddle track near Craigieburn Forest Park on Thursday, August 27.<\/p>\n

While crossing a river, Anderson fell and was swept downstream. <\/p>\n

His friend asked for help on State Highway 73 and was taken to hospital with minor injuries. A search effort was then launched. <\/p>\n

“Unfortunately, the search so far has not located Gareth,” Detective Liam Mitchell said today. <\/p>\n

The search was paused today due to “adverse weather in the area”.<\/p>\n

The region is currently under a strong wind watch. <\/p>\n
