A livestream event for Shin Kochira Katsushika-ku Kameari K\u014den-mae Hashutsujo<\/a> (New Kochikame), the new anime<\/a> based on Osamu Akimoto<\/a>‘s Kochikame manga, revealed the new anime’s main cast and staff on Saturday. The event also revealed a promotional video and a visual. The anime will debut in 2027 and will air on Fuji TV<\/a> and will stream on various platforms.<\/p>\n

Akitar\u014d Daichi<\/a> (2001 Fruits Basket<\/a>, Me & Roboco<\/a>, Ojarumaru<\/a>, Gag Manga Biyori<\/a>) is directing the anime at Gallop<\/a>. Shuichi Kamiyama<\/a> (Ace Attorney<\/a>, Battle Spirits: Brave<\/a>, Danb\u014dru Senki W<\/a>) and Yoshifumi Fukushima<\/a> (Danb\u014dru Senki W, Yowamushi Pedal<\/a>) are writing the scripts. Kenichi Hara<\/a> (Yu-Gi-Oh! GX<\/a> character design, Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V<\/a> chief animation director) is both the character designer and chief animation director, and Gil-Bo Noh<\/a> (Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s<\/a>, Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V animation director) is also a chief animation director. Toshihiko Sahashi<\/a> (Full Metal Panic!<\/a>, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed<\/a>, Steel Angel Kurumi<\/a>) is composing the music.<\/p>\n

The new anime commemorates the 50th anniversary of the manga. <\/p>\n

The franchise is also getting a new video game from Shueisha Games<\/a> and Kairosoft that will launch for Nintendo<\/a> Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation<\/a> 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, iOS, Android, and PC via Steam<\/a>. The game is titled Kochikame: Ryo-san’s Billion-yen Beat (Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearik\u014den-mae Hashutsujo<\/a>: Ryo-san no Shotengai Monogatari). The game will launch on Steam with English, Traditional Chinese, and Japanese text.<\/p>\n

Kochikame ended in September 2016 after 40 years of serialization, although Akimoto has<\/a> published<\/a> several<\/a> extra<\/a> chapters<\/a> for the manga since then. The manga series had approximately 150 million copies in print as of June 2016 when the 199th volume shipped. The manga’s 201st volume shipped<\/a> in October 2021.<\/p>\n

Shueisha<\/a> published<\/a> the latest one-shot to commemorate the manga’s 50th anniversary on August 3.<\/p>\n

The manga has inspired a television anime series, anime films, anime specials, live-action films, a live-action series, and several stage plays. The main Kochikame anime debuted in 1996, and ran for more than 300 episodes until 2004.<\/p>\n

REMOW<\/a> announced<\/a> in May 2025 that it is releasing the television anime with English subtitles in the U.S. and Canada on the It’s Anime YouTube<\/a> channel. REMOW plans to release all 373 episodes of the anime in the U.S. and Canada. The anime has previously not had an English release in North America.<\/p>\n
