Tararua District is prepping for the El Ni\u00f1o<\/a> season, with residents being urged to get ready for strong wind events, wildfires and an increased risk of flooding.<\/p>\nHeavy rain watches were also in place across a wide stretch of central New Zealand today and Monday, including Taranaki about and north of Taranaki Maunga, The Ruahine Range, Tasman District west of Takaka, the south and east of Wellington and Wairarapa away from the Tararua Range.<\/p>\n
The Canterbury High Country north of Mt Cook, southwestern Marlborough and the ranges of Westland north of Mt Cook National Park were also under watches.<\/p>\n
Road snowfall warnings were in place for Lewis Pass (SH7), Arthur’s Pass (SH73), Porters Pass (SH73), Lindis Pass (SH8) and Crown Range Road.<\/p>\n
