He first came in 2008 as a guest of honour at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejc.com\/community\/israeli-film-festival-is-still-standing-in-uk-after-15-years-if5am9q3\" data-tracking-context=\"In article link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jerusalem Film Festival<\/a>, before returning in 2013 with The Infernal Comedy: Confessions of a Serial Killer, performed at the Eilat International Chamber Music Festival and the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.<\/p>\n<p>His return comes at a difficult time for Israel\u2019s entertainment industry, with international performances <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejc.com\/opinion\/the-bigoted-boycott-of-israeli-filmmaker-nadav-lapid-is-a-betrayal-of-culture-f59s5c8w\" data-tracking-context=\"In article link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">disrupted by boycotts<\/a> and artists choosing to stay away.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am thrilled to return to Israel and look forward to meeting the warm Israeli audience once again, to whom I feel a strong closeness and solidarity. I hope to find you happy and optimistic! Sending you much love,\u201d Malkovich said.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement comes just days after the actor appeared at the Venice Film Festival for Martin McDonagh\u2019s Wild Horse Nine, alongside Sam Rockwell, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejc.com\/life\/film\/can-non-jews-play-jews-in-movies-we-pick-out-the-best-and-the-worst-bqw9mc1d\" data-tracking-context=\"In article link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Steve Buscemi<\/a>, Tom Waits and Parker Posey.<\/p>\n<p>The film received a 14-minute standing ovation following its world premiere, with Malkovich visibly emotional during the response.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"It will be Malkovich\u2019s third professional visit to Israel.
