That sense of momentum is captured in the upcoming Project Canterbury report, which explores how the region has moved beyond its earthquake rebuild to become one of New Zealand’s fastest-growing economic regions.

The report examines the rise of Christchurch’s aerospace, technology and health-tech sectors, major investments at Christchurch Airport and Lyttelton Port, and the infrastructure projects reshaping the region.

Companies such as Dawn Aerospace, Kea Aerospace, Partly, BioOra and MARS Bioimaging headline a new generation of Canterbury businesses competing internationally and attracting investment into the South Island.

NZME chief executive Michael Boggs said the report reflected both Canterbury’s growing economic significance and NZME’s long-term commitment to the region.

“It’s an exciting time for NZME in the region, with the release of Project Canterbury, a premium report showcasing the region’s growth, innovation, investment opportunities and future economic potential.”

Boggs said Canterbury had become central to New Zealand’s future growth story.

“We see great opportunity to invest in telling more local stories, deepen our relationships with businesses, agencies and communities throughout Canterbury.”

"NZMENZME has appointed Maria O’Halloran will as its general manager in Canterbury.

Former Ballantynes chief executive Maria O’Halloran will join NZME later this month as general manager for Canterbury.

“Bringing someone of Maria’s calibre into this role sends a clear signal about how seriously we take our commitment to Canterbury,” Boggs said.

The report also finds that while confidence is high, growth is creating new challenges. Housing demand, energy security and infrastructure funding are emerging as key issues as Canterbury’s economy expands.

Project Canterbury executive editor Fran O’Sullivan writes that the region’s next challenge is no longer rebuilding, but “managing success”.

Canterbury businesses appear ready to back themselves, with confidence, investment and hiring intentions all pointing up.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is scheduled to take part in a Q&A session with NZME chief content officer Murray Kirkness at a Project Canterbury breakfast with business leaders at One NZ Stadium on Thursday.

This will be streamed on nzherald.co.nz from 9.30am, followed by a panel discussion featuring Dawn Aerospace CEO Stefan Powell and ChristchurchNZ chair and company director Lauren Quaintance.

Stories from the report will be available on this page from Thursday morning.

That sense of momentum is captured in the upcoming Project Canterbury report, which explores how the region has…

[5
95,138,10166,8126,50545,29140,6097,18983,1437,3499,30689,4042,76912,648,1426,117,111,139,69,3263,3227,1560,1439,9833,153609,1962,1961,28050,5619,80
post-593888","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-business","tag-and","tag-business","tag-businesses","tag-canterbury","tag-christchurchs","tag-doubling","tag-down","tag-draws","tag-global","tag-growth","tag-heralds","tag-hiring","tag-inaugural","tag-industries","tag-investment","tag-new","tag-new-zealand","tag-newzealand","tag-nz","tag-project","tag-published","tag-report","tag-scene","tag-setting","tag-shrugging","tag-special","tag-this","tag-thursday","tag-uncertainty","tag-zealand
["GET
