In 2021, Australian media reported Carter\u2019s Metro Diversified buying Homebase Wagga retail centre in regional New South Wales. <\/p>\n
In 2019, Metro was reported buying the Blaxland Home Centre, Campbelltown, Greater Western Sydney for A$47.5m.<\/p>\n
Asked if he had bought Glenfield, Garry Carter told the Herald yesterday that he could not discuss anything due to a non-disclosure clause in an agreement.<\/p>\n
In an exclusive paywalled article a week ago, Australia\u2019s Green Street News of Melbourne said: \u201cAustralian syndicate crosses the ditch to buy one of Auckland\u2019s largest malls\u201d and that said Carter led the syndicate to buy it. <\/p>\n
Carter is a high-flyer from the 1980s and 1990s who was once named Business Review Weekly\u2019s property businessman of the year in 1985.<\/p>\n
However, he was sentenced to four years in prison in 1995 after he pleaded guilty to three counts of improperly using his position as a director of ATS Resources (later renamed Entity Group) to gain an advantage for himself and companies associated with him.<\/p>\n
Those close to the deal say the syndicate plans to keep Glenfield as it is, with its strong tenancy mix and low vacancy.<\/p>\n

However, in the longer term, Metro may look to expand the popular centre.<\/p>\n
Nick Willis, executive director of agency JLL Australia and New Zealand, said on August 31 that the mall on a 4.5ha site had sold after an exclusive international expression of interest campaign.<\/p>\n
He did not say who had bought it.<\/p>\n
More than half of the bids came from overseas, a sign of capital demand for good retail property in New Zealand, he said.<\/p>\n
In February, the Herald reported the mall was for sale<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Pendergrasts said they would sell their company\u2019s property, valued by the Auckland Council at $130m.<\/p>\n Ladstone Holdings indicated the mall was second only on the North Shore to Scentre Group\u2019s Westfield Albany.<\/p>\n Asked this week what the couple planned to do with the $146m, Dallas Pendergrast said: \u201cNothing until after the election and by then we might have got used to it just sitting in the bank\u201d.<\/p>\n Asked if Ladstone had sold to the Carter-led syndicate, Pendergrast said yesterday: \u201cWe\u2019re still under confidentiality\u201d.<\/p>\nRoss and Dallas Pendergrast, who in February 2026, announced their company would sell its big Glenfield shopping centre.<\/p>\n
