{"id":596730,"date":"2026-09-11T04:00:13","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T04:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/596730\/"},"modified":"2026-09-11T04:00:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T04:00:13","slug":"benchmark-interest-rates-shoot-higher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/596730\/","title":{"rendered":"Benchmark interest rates shoot higher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In reaction to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interest.co.nz\/economy\/140199\/oil-prices-bond-yields-jump-us-ppi-rises-further-us-inventories-rise-trump-splashes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">the sharp rise overnight <\/a>in international benchmark bond yields, our financial markets have opened Friday with their own matching reaction.<\/p>\n<p>It seems likely that swap rates will close the day sharply higher.<\/p>\n<p>We are tracking NZ Government bond yields and these show sharp increases.<\/p>\n<p>The one year NZGB is up 8 basis points so far on Friday, now up to 3.23%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/nzgb-1-yr.jpg\" class=\"drupal-media\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The two year NZGB is up 20 bps, now at 3.92%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/nzgb-2-yr.jpg\" class=\"drupal-media\" style=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The last time the two year swap rate was at 3.92% was in October 2024.<\/p>\n<p>At that time the two year fixed home loan rate was 5.69%.
