{"id":598343,"date":"2026-09-12T18:40:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-12T18:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/598343\/"},"modified":"2026-09-12T18:40:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-12T18:40:10","slug":"tauranga-man-charged-after-30-political-hoardings-damaged","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/598343\/","title":{"rendered":"Tauranga man charged after 30 political hoardings damaged"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  [&amp;_p]:tit-sub-xl tit-sub-xl md:[&amp;_p]:d-tit-sub-xl md:d-tit-sub-xl mb-[1.3rem]\">A Tauranga man has been charged after an alleged vandalism spree damaged around 30 political hoardings in P\u0101p\u0101moa.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The first hoardings were targeted on Parton Rd at around 6.30am on September 10, with roughly 30 hoardings of various kinds damaged over a two-hour period across the suburb.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Senior Sergeant Shannon Clifford said the damage was &#8220;significant&#8221; in some cases.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">&#8220;Unfortunately, that&#8217;s an unnecessary cost for the people who own them. We won&#8217;t tolerate this illegal and destructive behaviour in our community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Tips from the public had helped to identify a suspect quickly, she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">&#8220;I&#8217;d like to thank those people who reported the damage as it was happening, their quick actions have helped us arrest a suspect that same day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">&#8220;It&#8217;s a warning to anyone wanting to damage or deface hoardings \u2013 actions have consequences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">A 43-year-old Tauranga man faces four charges of wilful damage.
