Inside the home were four adults and four children.<\/p>\n

Beveridge was armed with a shotgun, an accomplice had a knife, and they began yelling derogatory terms for occupants to come outside.<\/p>\n

The men were demanding the name of a person who had allegedly attacked a family member.<\/p>\n

A woman came out and recognised Beveridge\u2019s accomplice as her nephew and, when he saw her, he dropped the knife.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t know you were here, auntie,\u201d he said according to the summary of facts.<\/p>\n

However, Beveridge broke a shed window and stepped on to the veranda and smashed a bedroom window.<\/p>\n

He then pointed the gun at the woman and when she told him not to do that and to leave, they did.<\/p>\n

The vehicle they arrived in was later found abandoned with weapons inside and the pair were arrested at another address.<\/p>\n

Beveridge was granted electronically monitored bail but the court heard he offended again in March and November the same year.<\/p>\n

Beveridge\u2019s lawyer Jenna Johnson-Aufa\u2019i told the court her client had written an apology letter accepting responsibility and acknowledging how frightening it would have been for the victims.<\/p>\n

But Crown lawyer Jesse Hunter said the letter needed to be read alongside comments he had made to pre-sentence report writers.<\/p>\n

The report writer noted Beveridge had a \u201cconcerning willingness\u201d to use violence and that he took no responsibility and expressed no remorse.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo some extent you blame your associates and drug taking,\u201d Judge Philip Rzepecky<\/a> said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany people write letters on the eve of sentencing and I\u2019m sure that you do feel sorry for the situation that you\u2019re in, but I\u2019m not sure, given the contents of the probation report, that you are indeed remorseful so there\u2019ll be no discount.\u201d<\/p>\n

Judge Rzepecky said there was a degree of planning and premeditation as Beveridge arrived at the home armed with a weapon for a specific purpose.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a degree of planning and intended retribution,\u201d the judge said.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou were armed with a shotgun, a very lethal and intimidating weapon, and I accept the Crown\u2019s submission that whether or not the shotgun was loaded it was still intimidating.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe occupants of the house must have been terrified, especially the woman that you pointed the shotgun at.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was violent action.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beveridge was sentenced to three and a half years\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>\n
