{"id":604716,"date":"2026-09-18T22:22:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-18T22:22:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/604716\/"},"modified":"2026-09-18T22:22:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-18T22:22:09","slug":"suspected-fatal-shark-attack-closes-popular-perth-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/604716\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspected fatal shark attack closes popular Perth beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  [&amp;_p]:tit-sub-xl tit-sub-xl md:[&amp;_p]:d-tit-sub-xl md:d-tit-sub-xl mb-[1.3rem]\">Emergency services have rushed to a popular Western Australian beach following a suspected fatal shark attack.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Ambulance crews attended Perth&#8217;s Sorrento beach about 10.30am on Friday after reports of a shark incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Three crews have since been stood down and police have taken over the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Water Police and the Police Air Wing have been deployed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Police will officially confirm further details once they have established the circumstances of the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development will also be involved in the investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Bathers are not permitted to enter the water at the popular swimming spot and have been urged to take caution on the sunny 26C day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1news.co.nz\/2026\/09\/14\/shark-attack-in-australia-leaves-man-in-serious-condition\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">man was also rushed to hospital on Monday<\/a> following a shark attack on a remote Western Australia beach.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Emergency services responded to Glenfield Beach, north of Geraldton in the state&#8221;s Mid West, shortly after 9.45am on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The man, who is in his 50s, was rushed to nearby Geraldton Health Campus under lights and sirens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The surfer was seriously injured but is now in a stable condition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Surf Lifesaving WA&#8217;s helicopter shark patrols began for summer last week.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Emergency services have rushed to a popular Western Australian beach following a suspected fatal shark attack.
