Four people are facing a raft of charges after seriously injuring an elderly man and his dog during a burglary in Kaikohe. <\/p>\n
Northland CIB Detective Sergeant Bart Graham said the violent offending occurred at a residential address on Cottage Court on September 13. <\/p>\n
Graham said officers – and the armed offenders squad – searched a property in Kaikohe yesterday. <\/p>\n
“Four suspects were located at the property and three were immediately arrested. <\/p>\n
“One male attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly arrested,” he added. <\/p>\n
Three men, aged 19, 21 and 39, were charged with aggravated burglary; wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; assault with intent to injure; possession of an offensive weapon; and assaults person with a weapon. <\/p>\n
They have been remanded in custody and would reappear in Kaikohe District Court on October 27. <\/p>\n
A 17-year-old male was charged with aggravated burglary; wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm; assault with intent to injure; possession of an offensive weapon; assaults person with a weapon; and cruelty\/ill-treatment of an animal. <\/p>\n
He would reappear in Kaikohe Youth Court on October 28. <\/p>\n
Graham said police “understand how distressing this offending was”.<\/p>\n
“Everyone has the right to feel safe in their own home.
