NZ First has pledged to lower the tax rate for small and medium-sized businesses.<\/p>\n
The party said it will campaign to lower the company tax rate for companies with turnover below $30 million from 28% to 20%. <\/p>\n
It said the reduction would have an estimated initial annual cost of $1 billion, but claimed it would be “more than covered” in the medium term. <\/p>\n
The party believed this could be achieved due to “more companies collectively paying a lower tax rate, higher employment, a growing economy, and more spending”. <\/p>\n
“This is a much-needed bold step to encourage more investment by our small businesses that will create higher productivity, expand their business, and employ more New Zealanders,” an NZ First spokesperson said. <\/p>\n
“Corporate taxes can reduce productivity, particularly in entrepreneurial and innovative sectors. Lower company tax rates can improve long-run productivity growth, and stimulate the creation of new companies.<\/p>\n
“A lower tax rate leaves additional cash available for reinvestment and reduces reliance on bank debt.” <\/p>\n
NZ First said the policy would move away from “short-term sugar hits” to “proper long-term investment”.<\/p>\n
“New Zealand needs to catch up to key competitors to ensure that we are seen as a country of growth for our businesses that innovate and create productivity and employment.” <\/p>\n
