Nick Cannon <\/a>and Mariah Carey <\/a>have been able to remain on friendly terms nearly a decade after their divorce.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were able to, kind of, move on and be amicable and be the best parents we can,\u201d Cannon, 45, exclusively shared in his Us cover story<\/a> ahead of his upcoming Wild \u2018N Out Tour. \u201cAnd, like, to this day, man, we talk almost every day or every other day or, you know, just specifically just about the kids.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, \u201cShe knows how to hold on to her privacy in a way that you know. You feel like you know her, you feel like you understand, but she keeps all the things that are meaningful to her to herself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cannon and Carey, 57, were married from 2008 to 2016, during which period they welcomed twins Moroccan and Monroe, now 15. (Cannon is also a father of 10 younger children<\/a> from subsequent relationships. One of his sons, Zen, died from brain cancer at 5 months old in December 2021.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCrushing coparenting! Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have been amicably raising their twins, Moroccan and Monroe, since their 2014 split. The \u201cWe Belong Together\u201d singer gave birth to the former couple\u2019s little ones in April 2011, six months after Carey confirmed her pregnancy. \u201cYes, we are pregnant. It is true,\u201d the New York native told [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

\u201cI learned so much. I always say Mariah Carey was my greatest friend and my greatest teacher all at the same time,\u201d Cannon added. \u201cI mean, showed me aspects of the world that I had never seen before and probably would never see again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cannon, who stressed that he and Carey didn\u2019t have a \u201cmessy\u201d or \u201cdifficult\u201d divorce, has since taken core lessons from his past marriage.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I learned the most from her is how to hold on to the things that are true and to create your own spaces and not let outside energy infiltrate, like, I\u2019ve never seen somebody just really just operate on their own frequency, and it\u2019s always so positive and optimistic,\u201d Cannon said of the iconic signer. \u201c[With] all that she\u2019s been through in her life, I think that keeps her going. I mean, her faith and in her ability to just block out negative energy. I\u2019ve never seen anybody else do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Cannon coparents his twins with Carey while also trying to split his time equally<\/a> between his other kids.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe gotta operate as a unit, but it\u2019s definitely departmentalized. Every mother parents differently<\/a>, but when it comes to me, I\u2019m non confrontational, which isn\u2019t always a good thing,\u201d he acknowledged. \u201cI\u2019m cool, and I don\u2019t take anything seriously, so it\u2019s one of those things, like, I\u2019m either cracking a joke or just being like, \u2018All right, it is what it is.\u2019 I think it allows me to keep the stress down.\u201d<\/p>\n

With Monroe and Moroccan, Cannon has also gotten a glimpse at their early interests in following in both of their famous parents\u2019 footsteps.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tSetting boundaries. Nick Cannon revealed that Mariah Carey is pretty relaxed about his ever-expanding family \u2014 as long as he keeps any drama away from her. \u201cShe high frequency, man. She always asks me, \u2018You aight? You good? How you doing? You handling it all?\u2019\u201d Cannon, 42, revealed REVOLT\u2019s \u201cThe Jason Lee Show\u201d podcast, which [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n

\u201cMy daughter Monroe, she\u2019s 15, [and] she wants to either go to Pepperdine or NYU in their theater program,\u201d he told Us. \u201cShe can be whatever she wants to be, you know what I mean, but the fact that she wants to go in that space, I\u2019m like, \u2018Yo, find the love of it first. You don\u2019t necessarily want to be a movie star. You want to be a great actress.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cIf we can, kind of, just focus on the arts and be good at it, then whatever you want to do with it, sky\u2019s the limit, so that\u2019s what I encourage my kids to do. So, do as many school plays and recitals and all of that stuff as you want, and then you cultivate it, and when it\u2019s time to show it to the world, be ready. But we got to have fun doing it. It\u2019s not a job, it\u2019s a hobby.\u201d<\/p>\n
