I wish I could tell you that the Armory Show this year was radically different or better than recent editions at the Javits Center in Manhattan, but it was the same melange of dreadful hotel-lobby art next to countless inoffensive works that \u201cexplore identity and memory\u201d with only a slim minority of memorable standouts, many of which were in the Focus section, dedicated to art from the Caribbean and curated by the phenomenal Mar\u00eda Elena Ortiz<\/a> of the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and although people were wheeling and dealing as usual, the fair seemed awfully quiet and downcast, making the financial sector trade show on the floor below \u2014 same thing minus the art \u2014 seem like a riot in comparison.<\/p>\n
