{"id":614314,"date":"2026-09-28T13:10:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-28T13:10:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/614314\/"},"modified":"2026-09-28T13:10:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-28T13:10:09","slug":"hospitals-block-access-to-patients-records-after-cyber-threat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/614314\/","title":{"rendered":"Hospitals block access to patients\u2019 records after cyber threat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>  September 28, 2026  <img width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/Cyberattack.jpg\" class=\"attachment-full size-full wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  \/> Photo: Depositphotos.com<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-2 d-block d-md-none\">See more DutchNews articles in your Google search results<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-2 d-none d-md-block\">See more DutchNews articles in your Google search results<\/p>\n<p> <a class=\"btn btn-primary py-1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/preferences\/source?q=dutchnews.nl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">   Add as a favourite source on Google Add DutchNews as a favourite source on Google  <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some Dutch hospitals denied patients access to their medical records over the weekend because of security issues with the online gateway Citrix.<\/p>\n<p>The national cybersecurity centre NCSC advised hospitals to disconnect their Citrix applications from the internet after discovering a \u201ccritical vulnerability\u201d that could allow hackers to operate the system remotely.<\/p>\n<p>The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/security\/2026\/09\/28\/certainties-in-life-death-taxes-and-critical-citrix-vulns-under-attack\/5299369\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">issued an alert on Sunday<\/a>, saying it had \u201creceived reports and partner threat intelligence confirming that threat actors are actively exploiting these vulnerabilities globally\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Amphia Ziekenhuis in Breda, the Elisabeth-TweeSteden Ziekenhuis in Tilburg and the Frisius medical centre in Leeuwarden were among the Dutch hospitals that reported problems at the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Doctors were still able to look at patients\u2019 records, but the patients themselves could not during online consultations.<\/p>\n<p>The Frisius MC said on Sunday it had blocked access as a precautionary measure in response to the alerts by the NCSC and Z-Cert, the agency specialising in digital security in healthcare, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frisiusmc.nl\/actueel\/nieuws\/digitale-bereikbaarheid-frisius-mc-volledig-hersteld\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">its systems were now back online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The interior ministry said some of its civil servants had been unable to work remotely at the weekend after its Citrix applications were switched off.<\/p>\n<p>It is not the first time Dutch institutions have experienced security issues with Citrix and its access program, NetScaler.
