In less than three months, HBO’s new Wizarding World will officially open its doors as the most ambitious TV event of the decade begins. Key to the success of the new Harry Potter adaptation will be the cast, with the task of stepping into the shoes of many iconic performers certainly daunting. So far, most of the cast has taken shape, with the likes of Paapa Essiedu starring as Severus Snape, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Dominic McLaughlin as the titular Boy Who Lived, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.

Even the second season’s cast is currently coming together, with some big names added. Recently, Rafe Spall was added as Arthur Weasley in Harry Potter Season 2, joining the likes of Molly Hewitt-Richards as Moaning Myrtle and Jasper Ambrose as Colin Creevey. Most notably, Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington was chosen to portray Gilderoy Lockhart, taking over from Nicholas Hoult, who had to step down due to scheduling conflicts. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone will finally debut on December 25, 2026, on HBO Max, with eight episodes airing for an estimated one hour per installment.

REVEAL MY HOUSE →

The Sorting Hat Speaks

Your House Has Been Chosen

After careful deliberation, the Sorting Hat has made its decision. This is the house your values, your instincts, and your particular way of being in the world were made for.

Gryffindor Tower · Scarlet & Gold

🦁 Gryffindor

You have nerve. Not the reckless kind, but the deep, quiet courage that shows up even when you’re terrified — especially then.

Gryffindors don’t act because they’re fearless — they act because they understand that some things are worth being afraid for.

You stand up for people when it would be easier to look away.

You charge toward what’s right even when the odds are terrible.

🐍 Slytherin

You are driven, sharp, and utterly clear-eyed about what you want and how to get there.

Slytherin has long been misunderstood — painted as the house of villains when it is, at its best, the house of those who refuse to accept limits placed on them by others.

You are resourceful, strategic, and you play the long game.

You know your worth. You protect your own fiercely.

The dungeon common room with its view of the Black Lake is yours — and the ambitions that will take you further than anyone expects are yours too.

🦡 Hufflepuff

You are the kind of person that makes the world genuinely better just by being in it.

Hufflepuff is not the “safe” house or the “leftover” house — it is the house of those with the greatest heart and the most unwavering integrity.

You show up. You work hard. You don’t need glory or recognition — you do what’s right because it’s right.

Your loyalty never wavers, even when tested.

Nymphadora Tonks, Cedric Diggory, Newt Scamander — some of the wizarding world’s finest. And now you join them.

Ravenclaw Tower · Blue & Bronze

🦅 Ravenclaw

Your mind is your greatest gift, and you’ve always known it.

Ravenclaws are the thinkers, the questioners, the ones who find a puzzle irresistible and a good book better company than most people.

Ravenclaw is not merely about intelligence — it’s about the love of learning, the pursuit of truth, and the rare courage to admit you don’t know something yet.

You see the world with unusual clarity and depth.

Luna Lovegood, Filius Flitwick, Rowena Ravenclaw herself — all extraordinary, all original. And so are you.

↻ RETAKE THE QUIZ

The ‘Harry Potter’ Cast Isn’t Entirely Composed of New Names

Of all the aforementioned talented new names joining the Wizarding World, there is one bit of consistency, with original cast member Warwick Davis featuring in the new series after portraying the likes of Charms Professor Flitwick and Goblin Griphook in the film franchise. Recently, Davis spoke about reviving his classic character for the new series to the Press Association, admitting that the “character has been one of my favourite characters to play in my career.” He continued:

“He’s a very warm, kind of likeable character, as far as I’m concerned. I actually based him a lot on some of my teachers. He’s the kind of teacher you could say you’d forgotten your homework and they wouldn’t mind. They’d say, ‘OK, don’t do it again, but don’t worry about it for now’. To be asked to come back and play him again for the series was a huge honour, and I’m excited to retell these stories because they’re fantastic stories.”

Davis joins a packed cast for the HBO Harry Potter series. Also featuring in the upcoming first season are Orson Matthews as Oliver Wood, Asha Soetan as Angelina Johnson, Eire Farrell as Katie Bell, D’Angelou Osei-Kissiedu as Graham Montague, Dylan Heath as Adrian Pucey, Cornelius Brandreth as Terence Higgs, and many more.

Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more updates on the upcoming series.
