{"id":615182,"date":"2026-09-29T09:24:09","date_gmt":"2026-09-29T09:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/615182\/"},"modified":"2026-09-29T09:24:09","modified_gmt":"2026-09-29T09:24:09","slug":"man-charged-over-alleged-copper-theft-at-auckland-substation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/615182\/","title":{"rendered":"Man charged over alleged copper theft at Auckland substation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man has been charged over an alleged copper burglary at an Auckland substation, leaving a &#8220;significant amount of damage&#8221;.  <\/p>\n<p>Police said a lone offender allegedly entered the facility on Madeira Ln in Grafton on the morning of Saturday, September 26.<\/p>\n<p>The man allegedly targeted copper castings from the substation, which was supplying power to separate buildings at an apartment complex. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile committing his offending, the man allegedly created tens of thousands of dollars\u2019 worth of damage,&#8221; Detective Senior Sergeant Martin Friend said. <\/p>\n<p>Police raided a property in Manurewa last night and found a person of interest. <\/p>\n<p>A 42-year-old man was charged with burglary and intentional damage.
