I surely can\u2019t be the only Guardian reader who, on seeing the headline \u201cPow! Man in Batman costume chases down suspected Norwich handbag thief<\/a>\u201d (theguardian.com, 25 September), immediately thought of the Only Fools and Horses scene<\/a> in which Del and Rodney, dressed as Batman and Robin, foil a handbag robbery.

Jo Bannon could recycle her mum\u2019s school reports (Letters, 27 September<\/a>). My husband\u2019s are now laminated placemats, and a source of great entertainment at family gatherings, with their excoriating pronouncements that he is \u201cstill happy to be a silly boy\u201d who\u00a0is \u201csatisfied with mediocrity\u201d. It\u00a0certainly puts him in his place!

Well-loved kitchen tools are an easy way to maintain the physical connection with departed parents. My mother\u2019s egg slicer, at least 60 years old, is one of my most prized possessions. And when I die, my children will all vie for it.

Any help to buy scheme that is restricted to new-build homes (Andy Burnham announces new homes scheme for first-time buyers, 26 September<\/a>) is a scheme designed to benefit developers, not a scheme designed to benefit the first-time buyers.
