Police have launched a homicide investigation after two people were found dead at separate properties near Reefton on the West Coast.<\/p>\n
Emergency services were first called to an address on State Highway 7 near Rahu Saddle, between Reefton and Springs Junction, at about 7.50am on Tuesday after concerns had been raised for a person.<\/p>\n
Detective Inspector Geoff Baber said officers found a body when they arrived.<\/p>\n
“Upon arrival, a person was located deceased at the property,” Baber said.<\/p>\n
Further inquiries led officers to another address on Maimai Rd were a second person was located dead.<\/p>\n
St John said it responded to both incidents, sending a PRIME unit to SH7 and a first response unit, PRIME responder and an operations manager to Maimai Rd.<\/p>\n
Baber said police did not believe there was any risk to the public and were not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.<\/p>\n
“Members of the community may notice an increased police presence while we continue to gather information to establish exactly what occurred,” he said.<\/p>\n
“We acknowledge people will be understandably shaken following this incident.
