\n\tTom Cruise<\/a> pulled out his \u201cRisky Business\u201d dance moves (and those black Ray-Ban sunglasses) for his much-anticipated walk down \u201cThe Jennifer Hudson<\/a> Show\u2019s\u201d Spirit Tunnel.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe talk show appearance is Cruise\u2019s latest stop on the press tour for \u201cDigger,\u201d directed by two-time Academy Award-winning filmmaker Alejandro Gonz\u00e1lez I\u00f1\u00e1rritu. In her Variety Power of Women cover story<\/a>, Hudson revealed she booked the movie star as a guest during a chance meeting this summer at the World Cup final.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI was like, \u2018Tom, could you imagine your Spirit Tunnel? What do you think they\u2019re going to sing for you?\u2019\u201d Hudson said, shooting her shot. <\/p>\n

\n\tFor the uninitiated: the \u201cJennifer Hudson Show\u2019s\u201d spirit tunnel is a pre-show segment where her staff lines a hallway at Warner Bros.\u2019 Studio 1 and sings a customized song to welcome each celebrity guest to the stage. Fortunately for Hudson, Cruise knew what he\u2019d be signing up for \u2014 \u201cI watch the show, Jennifer,\u201d he told her. \u201cI watch everything. I watched you on \u2018American Idol.\u2019\u201d \u2014 and, as a new clip shows, he came ready to boogie.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe video, posted to social media on Tuesday, shows Cruise exiting the dressing room to find \u201cThe Jennifer Hudson Show<\/a>\u201d staff rocking black sunglasses and singing a riff on the classic, \u201cOld Time Rock & Roll.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe song calls back to one of Cruise\u2019s first movie star-making moments from the 1983 movie \u201cRisky Business,\u201d where he slides into frame to lip-sync and dance in his underwear and shades to Bob Seger\u2019s version of the song.<\/p>\n

\n\tHere, the talk show producers remix the lyrics to reference Cruise\u2019s status as a cinema legend: \u201cWe\u2019ve got Tom Cruise at the Happy Place. He\u2019s in the tunnel walking to the stage,\u201d the crew sings. \u201cHe\u2019s a legend everybody knows. We\u2019ve got that Tom Cruise rock and roll.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tCruise quickly commits to the bit, pulling out his own black sunglasses and dancing along, even pulling in some staffers to join him. (Sure, some of his hand claps are off-beat, but Cruise is just as gleefully game here as he is to doing his own stunts in the \u201cMission: Impossible\u201d movies.)<\/p>\n

\n\tLikewise, \u201cDigger,\u201d in theaters Friday, is a massive test of Cruise\u2019s dedication. In the film, he plays Digger Rockwell, a Texas oil tycoon whose company may have set off an ecological disaster that could also spark a nuclear war. The role required Cruise to transform with prosthetics (including a fat suit and thinning white hair) and a put-on Southern accent, but, mostly, the absurdist satire demanded his full acting range. The result is a theatrical showcase seemingly crafted to put Cruise back in the competitive Oscar race for the first time in decades.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI have never had something that could challenge me in this way, and neither has Alejandro,\u201d Cruise said about starring in the black comedy.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Warner Bros. movie is a big swing, and reviews have been wide-ranging (including Variety\u2019s<\/a>), so the studio has gone on offense, confronting the negative buzz with a new ad<\/a> that includes both positive and negative reactions, inviting moviegoers to \u201cdecide for yourself.\u201d<\/p>\n
