BYD also claims it is the first Chinese new energy vehicle brand to reach the monthly milestone locally.<\/p>\n<p>The Atto 2 was its best-selling model in September. The newly introduced Atto 2 DM-i plug-in hybrid is priced from $34,990, with BYD expecting demand to continue growing.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-128066\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/BYD-ATTO-2-DM-i-1024x683.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The record month comes just weeks after the brand announced it had passed 15,000 vehicles on New Zealand roads. BYD entered the local market in 2022 and now its sales and service network spans 25 locations across both islands, with further sites confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis represents real buyers choosing lower running costs, better technology and strong value, not a number built on subsidies or fleet deals,\u201d said BYD Auto NZ general manager Warren Willmot.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot long ago BYD was a new name to most New Zealanders.
