The Sonoma Valley Library features the work of local artist Carol Kelley for its October Artist Showcase.

A public reception is scheduled for 4 to 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, in the library’s Forum Room, 755 W. Napa St. in Sonoma

Kelley’s “Images from the Reverie: Soul Travel of the Modern Woman,” will be on display through October.

“I’ve had a lot of fun with this but I thought it’s a big part of who I am and I might as well take it out of the closet and show it,” Kelley said.

Some of the exhibit visualizes her experiences with “soul travel” during her Jungian-based therapy, a form of psychodynamic therapy that explores the relationship between the conscious and unconscious mind.

“I would come home from these sessions and start drawing with my left hand — my non-dominant hand — and I ended up with over 100 watercolors,” Kelley said of creating many of her pieces while in a trance. “I took some of these watercolors and made fabric out of them.”

Kelley has been an artist for approximately 50 years and spent five years creating mosaic installations for filmmaker John Lasseter’s Glen Ellen home.

Her public projects include a 12-foot mural of Portugal and the fireplace at LaSalette restaurant on First Street and a large mosaic lamp that once served as a conversation piece at Sonoma’s Breakaway Cafe, which closed in 2016.

The Sonoma Valley Library features the work of local artist Carol Kelley for its October Artist Showcase.
