Jeff Bezos and his enormous $500 million superyacht have just pulled into Auckland, and the billionaire may have found a rather useful place to give his floating palace some TLC.<\/p>\n
The 417-foot Koru has arrived in New Zealand after cruising around the Pacific, bringing its three giant masts and eye-watering price tag with it.<\/p>\n
But Auckland could offer Bezos something even more useful than a scenic backdrop.<\/p>\n
And when you\u2019re looking after a yacht this enormous, even something like a small repair bill can turn into a very big number.<\/p>\n
Koru is basically a floating billionaire mansion for Geff Bezos<\/p>\n Koru is not the kind of superyacht<\/a> you casually squeeze into a marina and forget about.<\/p>\n At 417 feet long, the sailing yacht is one of the biggest of its kind in the world and was built by Dutch shipbuilder Oceanco for Jeff Bezos.<\/p>\n It reportedly cost around $500 million and comes with the sort of features you\u2019d expect when your idea of a weekend boat is roughly the size of a skyscraper.<\/p>\n There are multiple decks, swimming pools and plenty of space for guests, while the yacht\u2019s three enormous masts tower above the water.<\/p>\n Koru even has its own support vessel, Abeona<\/a>, which carries extra toys, equipment and a helicopter.<\/p>\n Basically, keeping this thing shipshape is a very different proposition from taking your boat to the local garage.<\/p>\n Auckland could make those huge bills a little smaller<\/p>\n New Zealand has a particularly interesting rule for visiting yachts.<\/p>\n Qualifying repair and maintenance work on temporarily imported boats can be charged at zero percent Goods and Services Tax (GST), rather than the country\u2019s standard 15 percent rate.<\/p>\n That could be seriously useful for a yacht like Koru if it needs a major service or some work while it\u2019s in Auckland.<\/p>\n Imagine a $10 million repair bill, at 15 percent, the GST alone would be $1.5 million, but on a $20 million job, it would be $3 million.<\/p>\n Suddenly, finding somewhere nice to park your $500 million yacht starts to look like a very smart bit of planning.<\/p>\n There is no evidence that Bezos specifically brought Koru to Auckland to take advantage of the rule, but the timing certainly gives him the option if the yacht needs work.<\/p>\n Even Koru\u2019s everyday bills are wild for Jeff Bezos<\/p>\n The potential tax saving is particularly eye-catching because Koru\u2019s normal running costs are already on another level.<\/a><\/p>\n We estimated that it costs around half a billion dollars a year to keep the yacht running, although that figure covers the broader cost of operating the vessel rather than simply maintenance.<\/p>\n And the spending can get ridiculous.<\/p>\n![\"Jeff](\"https:\/\/supercarblondie.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/Jeff-Bezos-wedding-Koru-superyacht-venice.webp\")
