The Auckland-based yogi and wellbeing educator is also refreshingly honest about fitness, quick to laugh and eager to demystify yoga, often labelled performative and elitist since the advent of social media. <\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\" Nikki Ralston is the mind behind The Ralston Method.\" class=\"article-media__image responsively-lazy\" data-test-ui=\"article-media__image\"\/> Nikki Ralston is the mind behind The Ralston Method.<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cUnfortunately, yoga is often marketed to us in a very narrow way,\u201d she says, resulting in many people thinking they must be \u201cflexible, thin, young, calm, or already \u2018good at yoga\u2019\u201d before starting. <\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe truth is, those external things are never the point,\u201d she adds. <\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">With time and practise, yoga becomes less about how you look in a pose, \u201cand more about how you feel in your body, how you respond to life, how you care for yourself, and how you move through the world\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">She says one of yoga\u2019s most unique benefits is developing embodied self-awareness. <\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cBy combining movement with conscious breathing and attention, yoga teaches us to recognise our internal state and regulate our nervous system as we move, helping us respond to stress rather than simply react.<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe beauty of the practice is that these skills don\u2019t just stay on the mat; they become tools we can draw on in everyday life, whether we\u2019re navigating a difficult conversation, a busy workday or simply learning to pause before we respond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A full-body burn with upbeat vibes<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">Barre teacher Cat Fawcett-Cornes has been dancing since age five, attending ballet school before studying Performing Arts at Otago University. She says teaching barre was a natural progression but is adamant it\u2019s not just for dancers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cI love barre because it combines strength, endurance, balance and mobility into one workout,\u201d she says, citing how its small, controlled movements challenge muscles like nothing else.<\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\" Barre teacher Cat Fawcett-Cornes.\" class=\"article-media__image responsively-lazy\" data-test-ui=\"article-media__image\"\/> Barre teacher Cat Fawcett-Cornes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThere really is nothing quite like the barre burn,\u201d she laughs, adding that because it\u2019s low-impact but effective, it\u2019s a great option at any age. <\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201dIt\u2019s a welcoming, full-body workout regardless of fitness level or co-ordination, and every exercise can be modified to suit where you\u2019re at.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">Plus, the great playlists always keep the energy high, \u201cand you leave feeling stronger, taller and more connected to your body\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Strength and stamina, all in one<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">Les Mills\u2019 National Personal Training specialist Phil Kingi has devoted his life to fitness and feels at his best when he combines strength training with what he calls \u201cbuilding a strong cardiovascular engine\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cSome would call this \u2018hybrid\u2019 training, but in truth, athletes have been training this way for decades,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n<p><img  alt=\" Les Mills\u2019 National Personal Training specialist Phil Kingi.\" class=\"article-media__image responsively-lazy\" data-test-ui=\"article-media__image\"\/> Les Mills\u2019 National Personal Training specialist Phil Kingi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">Most of Kingi\u2019s \u201cengine work\u201d used to come from running and rugby league training, but these days he includes swimming and functional movement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">When he\u2019s not working out, he\u2019s been busy bringing Les Mills\u2019 CEREMONY HYROX class to life: a 45-minute, coach-led functional circuit training class created through a partnership between the Aotearoa-born fitness name and the global brand. <\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cIt brings back the camaraderie, accountability and enjoyment I experienced at rugby league training,\u201d says Kingi, \u201cand we all know the power of group fitness\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">Despite how potentially intimidating all of the above may sound, every session \u201cdoesn\u2019t have to be at max intensity,\u201d according to Kingi. <\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cThe goal is to build your engine through quality volume at the right intensity. The biggest gains come from consistent exposure, with periodic spikes in intensity \u2013 not trying to empty the tank every session.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">And nope, you don\u2019t need to be fit to start, \u201cand you don\u2019t need to compare yourself to anyone else. Everyone is on a different journey. Just focus on showing up consistently, trust the process, and the results will follow\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Dance it out, no rhythm required<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">Prefer something a little more playful? Rhythm cycling may be more your speed. At Cadence, a studio in Auckland\u2019s Eden Terrace, indoor spin classes are set to fun, upbeat music with passionate instructors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cEach class combines resistance, intervals, and optional upper-body movements to create a full-body workout that\u2019s as energising as it is empowering,\u201d says founder Annika Willette. <\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">Even better? Finding the right fit can completely change your relationship with exercise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">Friendships found during workouts can also enrich your life beyond the studio, Gregg adds. <\/p>\n<p class=\"RteWPFVmeByCaDvyM\" style=\"display:none\">\u201cBecause so many of my clients share similar interests, I regularly bump into them at art galleries and concerts.
