To say it\u2019s been a challenging fortnight for King Charles<\/a> is an understatement. <\/p>\n

In the wake of Earl Spencer<\/a> releasing his memoir, the British monarch has been accused by his former brother-in-law of being dismissive about the late Princess of Wales\u2019 legacy, seeming \u201cgiddily elated\u201d after learning of Diana\u2019s death and acting insensitively towards his then-young sons\u2019 intense grief.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So it would be fair to assume that 77-year-old Charles\u2019 nearest and dearest would close ranks in a bid to comfort and protect the monarch, especially given he is still undergoing cancer treatment.<\/p>\n

However, behind closed palace doors, Woman\u2019s Day has learned that Queen Camilla<\/a> has been pushed to the edge by this latest drama \u2013 and she wants out!<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of talk that she and Charles are well and truly at their breaking point, and that this is affecting the marriage in a very significant way,\u201d a royal source explains.<\/p>\n

FEELING ATTACKED<\/p>\n

Making matters worse, instead of shrugging off the claims made in Swan Song<\/a>, the new memoir about his late ex-wife, Charles is raging with fury about how he\u2019s been wronged.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the King can talk about right now is this book and everything it\u2019s dredged up,\u201d continues the insider.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s enraged and can\u2019t believe that there was nothing that could be done to stop this.\u201d<\/p>\n

With the King now reportedly obsessing about what calamity might face the royal family next, he\u2019s been left on edge.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe can\u2019t sleep, he\u2019s hardly eating, and he\u2019s so short tempered, which is making him very hard to live with.<\/p>\n

\u201cCamilla is trying to be sympathetic but she doesn\u2019t have a whole lot of patience because she feels attacked, too.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly, Camilla has decided to retreat to her bolthole and safety net, Ray Mill House. Even though the idyllic cottage in Lacock, Wiltshire, is no longer registered in her name, the queen retains it as a private getaway from official royal duties \u2013 and Charles.<\/p>\n

\u201cCamilla is finding the overall atmosphere at Clarence House too much to bear at present,\u201d notes the insider.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s no secret that she and the King aren\u2019t in a good place.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Camilla is still reeling at the surprise return to the UK of Prince Harry<\/a> last month and is bracing for more drama.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Charles is still dealing with Andrew\u2019s mess and there are rumours that Sarah Ferguson<\/a> is publishing her own tell-all.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s no wonder they are at their wits\u2019 end. Camilla was hoping the next few years would be calm but instead the royal family is now constantly putting out fires.<\/p>\n
