A fire at a central Christchurch home has been contained after producing a “lot of smoke” billowing across the central city this afternoon.<\/p>\n
Fire and Emergency NZ was called to the blaze at a one-storey home on Fitzgerald Ave at about 3.22pm, with three crews from Christchurch City and Woolston attending.<\/p>\n
“FENZ have been on the scene for 26 minutes and are in the process of extinguishing it. The fire is contained but put up a lot of smoke when it was fully alight,” a spokesperson told 1News.<\/p>\n

Fire and Emergency said there were no reports of anyone in the house.<\/p>\n
Footage from 1News cameras showed fire crews with breathing apparatus at work as heavy smoke emanated from a white weatherboard building.<\/p>\n
