The company claims 17EV of dynamic range in its revised Log mode, next to native 4K 240fps slow motion and 4K 120fps 10-bit Log. Let’s take a close look.

The X500 Pro is the smallest of three X500 models, at 151.78 x 71.92 x 7.95mm / 5.98 x 2.83 x 0.31in and 192g / 6.8oz in black (the other three finishes are 8.12mm / 0.32in thick and weigh 197g / 6.9oz). It has a 50MP main camera on a 1/1.28in sensor behind a 24mm-equivalent f/1.57 lens, a 64MP telephoto at 85mm equivalent and f/2.52 on a 1/2in Sony LYT610, and a 50MP f/2.0 ultra-wide with autofocus on a 1/2.75in sensor. Video tops out at 8K, with 4K at up to 120fps in 10-bit Log and 4K 240fps in a dedicated slow-motion mode. A 2nm MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro, a 6,510mAh battery and IP68 plus IP69 sealing complete the hardware, and pricing starts at 6,499 yuan (about $970).

Vivo is the world’s first to use the new sensor, jointly defined by vivo and Sony. Credit: VivoA new main sensor and a 17EV claim

The telephoto gets new silicon as well. Its sensor is Sony’s LYTIA 610, a 1/2-type, 64MP chip with 0.7µm pixels and what Sony describes as the first mass-produced RB2×2 OCL structure, in which green pixels sit under individual microlenses for resolution and red and blue pixels share 2×2 lenses for phase detection autofocus. Sony claims more than 20% higher spatial resolution than the LYTIA 601 and double the readout speed, making this its first 1/2-type sensor to reach 4K 120fps. Sony’s specification lists HDR readout only up to 4K 60fps, however, so the 4K 120fps DCG HDR mode Vivo advertises belongs to the main camera. Both cameras carry a CIPA 7.0 stabilization rating for the pitch and yaw axes, and both lenses use ZEISS T* coating.

The 85mm equivalent lens. Credit: VivoLog, LUTs and what the product page leaves out

Vivo describes its Log mode as new for this generation and pairs it with in-camera LUT output, so a look can be baked in at capture or left for the grade. Custom 3D LUTs can be imported, applied to video at capture and shared. Subject tracking autofocus for people and objects works at up to 4K 120fps, and a Pro video mode is listed among the rear camera modes.

The new movie mode. Credit: Vivo

The 4K 240fps option is native, according to Vivo, but it sits outside the regular video mode in a section of the camera app the company calls Film Workshop, under a Super Slow setting that outputs speed-ramped clips. A separate portrait video mode records 4K 30fps with Dolby Vision and beauty processing, and 4K 60fps with film-style color looks.

What the page does not give us is the information that decides whether this is usable on a job. MP4 is the only recording format in the specification sheet, with no codec, chroma subsampling or bitrate stated. Vivo also does not say on which of the three cameras 4K 120fps Log is available, or how long the phone will sustain it. The USB-C port is USB 3.2 with DisplayPort output, and third-party wireless microphones are supported.

For comparison, Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro records ProRes RAW and Apple Log 2 with genlock, and OPPO promises 8K Log on all three cameras of the Find X10 Pro Max. Anyone considering the X500 Pro as a B camera should establish the codec and the per-lens Log support before anything else.

vivo Zeiss G2* Teleconverter (equivalent to 200mm). Credit: VivoAn 85mm telephoto, a 200mm extender and a clip-on monitor

The telephoto offers 3.5x optical zoom with a minimum focus distance of 18cm / 7.1in, and Vivo advertises telephoto snapshots at up to 20x. An optional ZEISS teleconverter, the Extender G2, brings the phone to a 200mm equivalent; Vivo’s footnote states that the equivalent focal length figures are reached in combination with in-camera digital cropping. The 400mm G2 Ultra, which we covered when Vivo previewed it with the X300 Ultra, is listed for the X500 Pro Max only, as are the imaging grip kit and the creator kit.

More relevant for solo shooters is a small accessory screen. It is a 3.92in touch display, 5.65mm / 0.22in thick, that attaches magnetically to the back of the phone and mirrors the camera view, so pieces to camera can be framed on the rear cameras instead of the front one. It also works as a remote at distances of up to 10m / 33ft, by Vivo’s measurement. The screen works only with X500 series phones, is sold separately, and needs a magnetic case on the phone as well.

Zeiss lenses on the new Vivo 500 family of mobile phones. Credit: VivoDisplay, processing and power

The flat 6.36in AMOLED panel has a resolution of 2660 x 1216 (459ppi), 10-bit color depth and full P3 coverage. Vivo quotes 4,500 nits of peak brightness at 20% APL and 2,000 nits full-screen, which is the more useful figure for judging exposure outdoors. The LTPO panel runs from 1 to 144Hz, with 144Hz reserved for supported games.

MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro uses two cores at 4.55GHz, three at 4.35GHz and three at 3.1GHz. MediaTek’s own figures put it 17% ahead of the Dimensity 9500 in single-core peak performance and 27% ahead in peak GPU performance. Memory is 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage, and no card slot is listed.

The battery holds 6,510mAh (24.48Wh) and charges at up to 90W wired or 40W wireless. Vivo says the phone remains usable at -20°C / -4°F. It runs OriginOS 7 on Android 17 and supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

Buyers who want the same video features in a larger body get a 6.85in 2K display, a 200MP telephoto and an 8,000mAh battery with the X500 Pro Max. The standard X500 drops to a Dimensity 9600M, and Vivo’s comparison table does not list the new sensor, Vivo Log or the high frame rate video modes for it.

Credit: VivoPrice and availability

The Vivo X500 Pro is on sale in China in four finishes. It costs 6,499 yuan (about $970) with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, 7,499 yuan (about $1,120) for 12GB/512GB, 7,999 yuan (about $1,195) for 16GB/512GB, 8,499 yuan (about $1,270) for 12GB/1TB and 8,999 yuan (about $1,345) for 16GB/1TB. Conversions are at roughly 6.7 yuan to the US dollar and do not account for local taxes. The ZEISS extender and the accessory screen are not included.

Europe is next. Vivo’s official store for Austria, Germany and Switzerland lists an X500 series launch event for October 27, 2026 at 16:00 CET, with pre-orders opening the same day and sales starting on November 5. The store has not yet said which of the three X500 models will be offered in Europe, and no euro pricing has been published.
