The off-contract 2017 Bathurst 1000 winner looked like he would be dropped amid General Motors\u2019 push to sign Grove Racing incumbent Matt Payne and install him at Team 18.<\/p>\n

Payne ultimately committed himself to the Grove team.<\/p>\n

Last year, Reynolds expressed some uncertainty about his future but by September said an extension was a formality and he was ultimately re-signed in October.<\/p>\n

In fact, it was on this day exactly a year ago that Team 18 announced the deal on the eve of the Bathurst 1000.<\/p>\n

With the 2027 season looming, Reynolds finds himself in familiar territory.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know,\u201d said Reynolds of his predicament.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou guys usually tell me before I get told. My phone\u2019s on \u2013 no, not really \u2013 I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just taking every [it] race by race and we\u2019ll see what happens.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m always relaxed about everything and I\u2019m always stressed about everything.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reynolds has languished relative to his younger, less experienced teammate Anton De Pasquale.<\/p>\n

De Pasquale sits sixth in the standings and has been a two-time race winner.<\/p>\n

Reynolds has just one podium to De Pasquale\u2019s five and is outside of Finals Series contention, 15th in the drivers\u2019 championship.<\/p>\n

Whether Reynolds stays or goes is unclear. There is still a view that Payne will land at Team 18 in 2028, so keeping Reynolds on another year may be the most straightforward option.<\/p>\n

However, there are plenty of talented, young drivers waiting in the wings who Team 18 could entertain as options \u2013 like its Enduro Cup wildcard Bayley Hall or stand-in co-driver Harri Jones.<\/p>\n
