The newly formed boy band Just Your Type is preparing for a major year ahead, bringing its members — Recker Eans, 16; Toby Green, 16; Caden Adamonis, 17; Bryan Chan, 18; Tyler George, 16 — to arenas and even malls (yes, really) on tour to help spread the word about the act signed to Wexler Records/Republic Records. As JYT refines its show, veteran songwriter-producer Freddy Wexler (Billy Joel, Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande) plans to build the fivesome into “one of the greatest live acts in the world.”

The five members of JYT weren’t sure that the boy band route was right for them — until they heard what Wexler was building. Wexler auditioned more than 1,300 young performers in search of the next great group, with hundreds scouted on social media, which is how he found members Caden and Recker. From there, Caden brought in Tyler, who then tagged in Toby, while Recker welcomed Bryan. By July 2025, the quintet — which cites boy bands like Backstreet Boys, One Direction and BTS but also artists ranging from Prince to blink-182 as influences — relocated to Los Angeles from their homes in England and elsewhere in the United States for an intensive year of training. After spending 10 months together, where they turned their individual musical strengths into a cohesive live act, the members began to feel like a family. That feeling clicked into place during JYT’s first performance together at the SIX Compound yearly dance showcase in Los Angeles this April. “We were in training for so long that we didn’t get to really share what we’ve been working on,” Caden recalls. “As soon as we did, I was like, ‘This is it. This is the moment. We’re not messing around.’ ”

JYT is taking a decidedly old-school approach to building its fandom. This summer, the band embarked on a tour of summer camps across New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, performing for more than 15,000 campers along the way — the tour wasn’t a walk in the park, though: The teenagers in the audience were without their phones for the summer, leaving JYT tasked with entertaining and winning over the notoriously skeptical demographic. “I’d watch kids [in the audience] with their arms crossed, and then by the end, [they’d] be up on their feet,” Wexler says. To wit, Recker’s favorite moment of the tour was when one camper who’d given the band a thumbs-down at the beginning of its performance later approached the members to say how “awesome” they were. Without social media to fuel buzz, word about JYT instead spread through letters sent back home and to friends at other camps — and the response was so strong that camps were soon reaching out to book additional performances. The camp tour also reinforced what Wexler believes makes JYT different: “The idea of a boy band, which historically was a manufactured concept, only works today if it’s real.”

JYT’s members naturally have their sights set on becoming one of the world’s biggest groups, dreaming of world stadium tours and even Grammy recognition — but they are most dedicated to building a legacy defined by live performances. Wexler hopes to get there in the next five years, insisting that by then, people won’t simply call JYT one of the greatest boy bands, but “one of the greatest live acts in the world.” For now, JYT is still collecting its firsts, from its December 2025 debut single, the melodic R&B-pop song “What U Want” (it has released four more singles since, all on Wexler Records/Republic Records), to its first arena performances this fall (including the entirety of the Jingle Ball tour). JYT was also recently revealed to be the first artist collaboration with Gap’s newly launched Fashiontainment platform that will include a fashion collection, docuseries and mall tour. But, as ambitious as they may be, JYT’s members are making sure not to lose sight of the group’s core. As Tyler says, “We’re just five best friends.”
