Oct 7 (Reuters) – Blue Origin \u2060is likely to pursue an initial public offering in \u2060the coming years, billionaire founder Jeff Bezos said on \u200cWednesday, after the space company raised $10 billion from outside investors for the first time in a funding round.<\/p>\n
“I think, someday, Blue Origin will have an IPO… \u200bIt would be several years from now. \u2060But it probably makes sense \u2060for Blue Origin to be a public company at some point,” \u2060Bezos \u200csaid on FOX News Channel’s “Special Report with Bret Baier”.<\/p>\n
The remarks are Bezos’ clearest indication yet that Blue Origin \u2060could seek a stock market listing. An eventual \u200bIPO would offer \u200cinvestors exposure to a major space company amid renewed interest \u2060in the \u200bsector, though rival SpaceX, which listed in June, remains the dominant player.<\/p>\n
Bezos, who also founded Amazon.com, said he has personally invested $28 billion in \u2060Blue Origin since establishing the company in \u200b2000. <\/p>\n
The Wall Street Journal reported in September that Blue Origin’s recent funding round valued it at $140 billion.<\/p>\n
Founded about 18 months before Elon \u2060Musk’s SpaceX, Blue Origin has largely relied on Bezos for funding while securing multibillion-dollar NASA and US Space Force contracts, including for work on the Artemis lunar program.<\/p>\n
Blue Origin aims to resume \u200bNew Glenn launches this year after a \u2060launch-pad explosion during a static-fire test in May delayed its efforts \u200bto compete with SpaceX in the \u200ccommercial launch market.<\/p>\n
“December of this year, \u200bwe’re going to fly that vehicle again,” Bezos said.<\/p>\n
