Two men were arrested by police after speeding 50 kilometres over the designated 100kph speed limit near T\u012brau.<\/p>\n
They were spotted by police on State Highway 1 in Put\u0101ruru on Wednesday, but were not caught.<\/p>\n
Sergeant Mike Owens said a decision was made not to follow the men after they failed to stop when signalled to.<\/p>\n
“Upon seeing police, the motorcyclists fled. A pursuit was not initiated due to the manner of driving,” Owens said.<\/p>\n
Luckily for the authorities, one of the motorcyclists was seen again in Auckland, and was tracked to an address after he again failed to stop when motioned to.<\/p>\n
Owens said that time the 35-year-old man was caught.<\/p>\n
“Following initial enquiries, police located the man at an address in Auckland where he was arrested and charged. His motorcycle was also located and impounded,” he said.<\/p>\n
The second offender was arrested on Thursday after Put\u0101ruru police responded to reports of dangerous motorcycle driving across the CBD and Glenshea Park.<\/p>\n
Owens said that with the help of the public, the man and other dirt bike riders in the area were stopped.<\/p>\n
“Information from the public resulted in a 21-year-old man arrested and charged for allegedly riding dangerously on a motorcycle with no registration,” he said.<\/p>\n
His motorcycle was impounded and two dirt bikers were issues infringements forbidding them to drive until they are licenced. <\/p>\n
The 35-year-old was in custody and will appear in court in October on charges of driving at a dangerous speed and two counts of aggravated failing to stop.<\/p>\n
