Britain\u2019s Prince Harry<\/a> fell into depression when he \u200btook a break from royal duties in 2019 before he formally stepped down<\/a>, he told a videocast about grief, where he also discussed feeling \u201cemotionally numb\u201d after his mother died.<\/p>\n

Harry, the \u2060younger son of King Charles III<\/a>, has been open about his mental health struggles and how the sudden death of his mother Princess Diana<\/a> in a car crash when he was 12 has affected his life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d spent so \u2060long emotionally numb to a large \u200bextent because \u2060nobody told me joy was still allowed,\u201d he said on a Masterclass videocast called \u201cRedefining Grief: Building Resilience Through Loss\u201d.<\/p>\n

He \u2060also recalled the stressful period in 2019 when tension with the rest \u200bof \u2060the royal family was \u200cmounting, and he and his wife Meghan went to Canada<\/a> for a six-week break to consider their future.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing in Canada, away from \u200cthe stressful environment where presumably my body was \u200cjust pumped full of adrenaline, within two or three days, I experienced this adrenaline crash, something that I\u2019d never experienced before,\u201d he said, according to media reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was \u2060as if I needed stress in order to get the adrenaline to make my brain function because I became useless around the house.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually slipped into depression for about two weeks and I felt like I couldn\u2019t function without adrenaline.\u201d<\/p>\n

Weeks after their break in Canada, Harry and Meghan returned to Britain where it was announced \u200cthat they would stop being working members of the royal \u200bfamily.<\/p>\n

Two months ago, the couple moved back to Britain \u200cwith their son Prince Archie, 7, \u2060and daughter Princess Lilibet, 5, after six years living in \u2060California.<\/p>\n

Campaigning to raise awareness of mental health issues is one thing Harry still shares \u200cwith his brother, heir-to-the-throne \u200bPrince William.
