The Devils Henchmen Motorcycle Club was founded in Christchurch in 1973 and became one of New Zealand\u2019s original outlaw motorcycle gangs<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Herald reported in 2024 that the Devils Henchmen appeared to be making a comeback in Christchurch, although police believed its membership remained small.<\/p>\n

The killings happened at Guthrey Courts, a social housing complex owned by \u014ctautahi Community Housing Trust.<\/p>\n

A neighbour told the Herald she heard \u201ca lot of screaming\u201d followed by sirens and the arrival of armed police.<\/p>\n

\u201c[There was] a lot of chaos … I just heard a lot of screaming … then we heard heaps of different sirens and saw armed offenders [squad members] turn up.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said several surrounding streets were blocked off and residents were told to remain inside their homes.<\/p>\n

The woman described the complex as generally quiet, although parts of the street could get \u201crowdy and busy\u201d at times.<\/p>\n
