Pacific Health Sciences is voluntarily recalling one lot of Babies’ Magic Tea brand Baby Sleep Gripe Water dietary supplement for containing alcohol.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON \u2014 The Food and Drug Administration announced a baby supplement sold on Amazon, and through other online retailers, is under recall for containing alcohol.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Pacific Health Sciences i<\/a>s voluntarily recalling one lot of Babies’ Magic Tea brand Baby Sleep Gripe Water dietary supplement. The company announced the recall on Oct. 6 for the specific lot of the 4 Fl oz bottles of the supplement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The recall comes after FDA testing found the lot in question had ethanol, methanol and isopropanol that were not declared on the product label. Measured levels showed approximately 8.3% ethanol, 0.35% methanol and 0.48% isopropanol. The presence of these alcohols may pose a risk depending on the amount consumed and the age and body weight of the person using the product, the recall stated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ethanol, methanol and isopropanol are known to impair normal functions of the central nervous system while infant exposure to ethanol has been linked to developmental consequences, the company said in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Exposure to the amounts recommended on this product\u2019s packaging can induce drowsiness, incoordination, behavioral changes, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Exposure to higher amounts can increase risk of respiratory depression and other serious adverse health consequences,” Pacific Health Sciences said in the hazard statement on the recall.<\/p>\n

To date, the company has not received reports of adverse events associated with the recalled lot.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The lot number is 25122bw and it has a best by date of 12\/2028.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The recalled supplement comes in an amber bottle inside a blue cardboard box, which also includes an oral syringe. The lot number can be found on the bottom of the box and on a side panel of the bottle.<\/p>\n

The affected lot was distributed to Secrets of Tea for distribution through online retailers, including Amazon and Secrets of Tea’s website.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Consumers, parents and caregivers are urged to stop using any product from Lot 25122bw and either discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.<\/p>\n
