allegedly shot a firearm<\/a> at police just after 9.30am while officers were conducting inquiries at a property on Chapel Road.<\/p>\nOne officer was injured and taken to hospital with minor injuries, and was discharged a few hours later.<\/p>\n
Superintendent Shanan Gray said the man refused to exit the property at a Salvation Army housing complex despite multiple attempts to engage with him.<\/p>\n
Nearby residents were then evacuated, schools were sent into lockdown, and some flights into Auckland Airport were interrupted for a short time while a police Eagle helicopter flew overhead.<\/p>\n
After more than three hours, it was decided the armed offenders squad would enter the property and arrest the man. He was taken into custody a short time later.<\/p>\n
An air rifle was located during a search of the property.<\/p>\n

Injured cop in ‘good spirits’<\/p>\n
Gray said the injured police officer was “in good spirits” and being provided support.<\/p>\n
“This could have had a very different outcome, and we’re incredibly thankful she only suffered a minor injury.<\/p>\n
“Our staff often face dangerous situations and I\u2019m thankful to all those who brought the matter to a swift resolution.”<\/p>\n
She is recovering at home. <\/p>\n
Police said the 47-year-old man was charged with using a firearm against a law enforcement officer, injures with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and two counts of breaching electronically monitored bail.<\/p>\n
He is set to appear in Manukau District Court today.<\/p>\n
