{"id":628801,"date":"2026-10-13T00:28:13","date_gmt":"2026-10-13T00:28:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/628801\/"},"modified":"2026-10-13T00:28:13","modified_gmt":"2026-10-13T00:28:13","slug":"seven-year-old-boy-died-after-being-swept-out-to-sea-at-tangimoana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/nz\/628801\/","title":{"rendered":"Seven-year-old boy died after being swept out to sea at Tangimoana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  [&amp;_p]:tit-sub-xl tit-sub-xl md:[&amp;_p]:d-tit-sub-xl md:d-tit-sub-xl mb-[1.3rem]\">Police have named the swimmer who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1news.co.nz\/2026\/10\/09\/person-dies-in-water-related-incident-at-manawatu-beach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">died in a water-related incident<\/a> at a Manawat\u016b beach last week. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">He was Ryder Hayden Coley-Clark, 7, from the Whanganui District.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">&#8220;Our thoughts are with his wh\u0101nau and friends at this difficult time,&#8221; police said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Emergency services were called to Tangimoana Beach Rd at around 2.30pm on Friday following reports of two people being swept out to sea. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">One person managed to make it back to shore safely, but another was found dead at about 3.50pm. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Hato Hone St John said an ambulance, a rapid response unit, an operations manager and a helicopter responded to the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Ambulance staff assessed one patient in a minor condition. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Coastguard said it provided drift and current modelling to help direct the search and issued a call over marine radio for nearby vessels to assist. <\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">The New Zealand Defence Force, Surf Life Saving New Zealand and members of the public also responded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Tangimoana Beach is located at the mouth of the Rangit\u012bkei River, around 30km west of Palmerston North.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body-paragraph articleLinkText  lg mb-4\">Last month, two people died and another was injured when a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1news.co.nz\/2026\/09\/14\/two-people-die-one-injured-after-boat-capsizes-at-rangitikei-river-bar\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">boat capsized near the river mouth.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Police have named the swimmer who died in a water-related incident at a Manawat\u016b beach last week.
