Each charge carries a maximum of seven years\u2019 imprisonment.<\/p>\n
Police allege Hussain squeezed one boy\u2019s genitals and made sexual comments.<\/p>\n
On another occasion, while parked at the mosque, Hussain allegedly grabbed another complainant\u2019s genitals over his clothing.<\/p>\n
His next court appearance is scheduled for January next year.<\/p>\n
Masjid At Taqwa said in a statement that Hussain ceased his involvement at the mosque by 2020.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe individual was previously involved in general voluntary activities at Masjid At Taqwa. He did not hold any official management, leadership, trustee, or administrative position within our organisation.\u201d<\/p>\n
The spokesperson said Masjid At Taqwa remained fully committed to protecting children, young people and vulnerable members of the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do not tolerate abuse, exploitation, or inappropriate behaviour of any kind. Our mosque continues to maintain supervision requirements for children attending the mosque and participating in activities under our organisation.\u201d<\/p>\n

They said any credible child safety concern brought to the mosque\u2019s attention would be treated seriously and referred to the authorities where required.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe that the allegations should be investigated and determined through the appropriate legal channels, with due regard for the rights and wellbeing of everyone involved.\u201d<\/p>\n
Masjid At Taqwa said in or around 2019, Hussain and a group of other volunteers ceased their voluntary involvement with the mosque and set up their own, separate, charitable organisation – Manukau Islamic Youth Centre (MIYC).<\/p>\n
Trustee Dawud Bahadur said Hussain was no longer part of MIYC in any capacity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen MIYC became aware of the serious allegations against him, he was stood down. He was removed as a trustee on 22 April 2024 and stood down from all leadership roles, including our management committee.\u201d<\/p>\n
A document from the Charities Register confirmed Hussain was removed as a trustee in April 2024.<\/p>\n
Bahadur said Hussain was formally advised that he was not permitted to enter MIYC premises, attend any MIYC activities, or be involved with MIYC in any capacity.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat direction has been enforced, and he has not returned to MIYC since his removal.<\/p>\n
\u201cMIYC has received no complaint relating to Mr Hussain\u2019s time at MIYC, and we understand the allegations do not relate to MIYC or its activities, but occurred prior when he was attending another mosque.\u201d<\/p>\n
Bahadur said the safety and wellbeing of the MIYC community, and particularly of young people, was the top priority.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause the matter is before the court, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further.\u201d<\/p>\n
